While a primary care doctor can prescribe growth hormone (GH) therapy, this is more
often done by a growth specialist called a pediatric endocrinologist. Once your
child starts GH therapy, visits to this specialist will help track how much your
child has grown.
At these visits, the doctor may also ask if there have been any side effects and
about how your child feels. The dose of growth hormone may be changed based on your
child's response to treatment and your answers to the doctor's questions. Be sure
to give your doctor full updates on your child's progress.
Talk to your doctor about any concerns you may have about GH therapy. You can get
sample questions to ask your child's pediatric endocrinologist.
How insurance companies pay for growth treatment can vary. You should call your
insurance company to ask if GH therapy is covered.
