Waiting too long to have your child diagnosed and treated can make it harder to
get the best results. Your child's doctor may ask you to "wait and see" when it
comes to your child's growth. For many children, a "wait and see" approach is just
fine—but not if your child has a medical condition that is keeping him or
her from growing normally.
In many cases, tests can be done which may put your mind at ease as you "wait and
see" if your child's growth rate will increase. It is important to ask that your
child's height be measured at every visit. Regular and exact measurements can also
help if you need a referral.
Your child's doctor might suggest "waiting and seeing," but if you're still concerned,
you might want to know if a referral to a specialist is required.
